Unless you are lucky enough to get it, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26. While some countries like the US will sell it before October 25, other countries like the UAE plan to launch the game at midnight. However, in India, the Red Dead Redemption 2 booking was cancelled a few days before the release. This is not the case for those booking on Amazon or Flipkart, not those who order through Paytm. According to several members of the Indian game forum IndianVideoGamer, their reservation through Paytm’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has been cancelled for no reason. After further inspection, it was found that the order of the Paytm seller was just the game dealer E-xpress.
A possible explanation for the cancellation may be the large amount of cash back available through Paytm, which may affect the dealer’s margin and therefore make the booking cancellation more profitable.
However, the representative of E-xpress talking to Gadgets 360 claimed that it was a “technical failure and would take care of it” and that matter would soon be resolved. Although the time to release the game in India does not seem to be two days, it is assumed that it arrives on time.
Prior to this, some customers told Gadgets 360 that their pre-ordered store told them that they had received “Rockstar’s Special Order” and shipped only on the release date. The Indian distributor of Red Dead Redemption 2 is E-xpress, and its warehouse is located in Mumbai. This means that unless you live in Mumbai, you may not be able to complete the game on time.
Since the game ends on Friday, people outside of Mumbai may get it as early as Saturday or Monday. For E-xpress’s own game store, the game store has Red Dead Redemption 2 which is only available on the release date, which does not help. When Gadgets 360 contacted this, the E-xpress representative replied “no comment.”
This development follows the report of the game blog Kotaku about the US independent game retailer, which did not receive Red Dead Redemption 2 on the release date. By the way, large chains like Gamestop and Best Buy will sell the game the day before. However, in India, it seems that only certain game stores are told about this delay.
Rockstar has imposed strict release date restrictions on India in the past. For example, GTA V on the PS3 and Xbox 360 was delayed due to “publisher regulations” at the time. Prior to this, GTA IV was delayed due to a shortage because India was not a high priority market at the time. From the current restrictions, there seems to be no change.
But there are exceptions. Other games, such as WWE 2K19, were released in early India. Due to the street dating in the Middle East, it started on the store shelves on October 5th, not on October 9. This is not likely to happen only when Red Dead Redemption 2 is leaked in advance and Rockstar allows the dealer to release the game. Before you think of buying it digitally, please have a 100GB download ready, which basically breaks the FUP of most Indian gamers.
